Practice terms

Version practice-research-2026-11-01

You must accept these terms before starting or continuing a practice game. By accepting, you permit HAI to use this game’s transcripts, including the text you write, moves and scores to:

  • publish research about mediation, including a MediationBench paper comparing people and AI mediators, with anonymized transcript excerpts and aggregate statistics;
  • evaluate and train AI judges, the systems that score mediators.

HAI does not use practice games to train an AI mediator. We never publish your name or email address, and we review transcripts for identifying details before any publication. Please don't include real people's names or contact details in your messages.

You can change this choice for any game in My games until the dataset for a paper is frozen. You can delete all your game data at any time; aggregate statistics that were already published stay. Pseudonymous usage records without message text may stay in our analytics store for up to two years, hidden from analysis after you delete your data.

The acceptance box starts unchecked. If you decline, you cannot play. Accepting for an existing game covers its saved text and future moves; old settings alone do not count as acceptance. Withdrawing permission stops further play until you accept again. You can still read your saved games and delete your data without accepting. Withdrawal stops future research and training use but cannot undo completed training or already published research.

About practice games

Each game is five simulated disputes between two people played by AI. You see the same public brief an AI mediator sees, and each turn you choose to speak, stay quiet, or end the conversation. When all five are done, the same AI judge that scores the MediationBench leaderboard scores your conversations.

The judge reads each conversation as written and is not told whether a person or an AI was mediating. A practice score is not a mediator certification or training credit.

Nothing is stored on this site. The page signs in against hai.ai and plays each dispute over the hai.ai API with your own token, which is kept for this browser tab only. You must accept the practice terms to play, including use of your text to evaluate and train AI judges. The terms on this page explain the permitted uses. The acceptance box starts unchecked. Each discussion has a private link that opens only for you, after you sign in. Practice games never change the leaderboard.
